A Note from principal Craig Peterson
With first quarter classes coming to an end on Nov. 2, we at MAHS have been working very hard to help our student's achieve at high levels. We expect a lot from our students here at MAHS in terms of academic behavior, social behavior and high character.
Parent-teacher conferences at the high school are on Thursday, Nov. 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., 2 to 5 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the high school gym. Conferences will also be on Thursday, Nov. 15 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the high school gym. Parents/guardians can expect to receive their son/daughter's first quarter grades, their son/daughter's fall 2012 NWEA scores and their son/daughter's 2012 MCA-II/GRAD scores. Please attend our fall parent-teacher conferences as we at MAHS continue to strive to reach our goal of continued parent/stakeholder communication.
As a reminder to all parents/guardians, we at MAHS run weekly grade reports and "missing homework" reports every Tuesday. Our grade check team and our high school staff will be contacting parents/guardians if there are concerns in our school. You as a parent/guardian can also check your son/daughter's grades, attendance and academic progress online by accessing our JMC parent portal at http://jmc.morris.k12.mn.us or go to our Morris Area school district website at www.morris.k12.mn.us.
I feel that our Olweus Anti-bullying program is going extremely well. We have had great buy in from our students and staff. I am personally happy with the direction of our high school culture and climate. We at the high school meet in our Olweus groups every Thursday during FLEX time to discuss character traits, ethical standards, leadership skills, anti-bullying behavior and societal issues each week. I feel that the conversations our students and staff are having during our FLEX time are improving our high school culture and climate for all students and stakeholders.
Next week our MACA extra-curricular activities will be starting their fall playoff seasons. The MACA tennis team just finished their season and the MACA swim team is starting their playoffs. The MACA cross-country team will be running next week for a trip to the state cross country meet on Nov. 3. The MACA volleyball team is currently seeded No. 3 in the North half of Section 3AA and looking forward to progressing throughout the volleyball playoffs. The volleyball team will be playing their first home playoff match versus Montevideo on Friday, Oct. 26 in Morris. The MACA football team is seeded No. 1 in Section 6AAA and will be playing on Saturday, Oct. 27 in Morris at 7:00 p.m. in the Section 6AAA semi-finals versus the winner of Albany/Melrose. Come out and support the Tigers as our student-athletes progress throughout the fall playoff season.
The fall musical, Footloose, is scheduled to be performed in our high school auditorium on Thursday, Nov. 15 to Saturday, Nov. 17. Our fall band concert is on Monday, Oct. 29 in the concert hall. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Come support our great fine arts programs.
Thank you to the University of Minnesota, Morris honors students for volunteering their time to tutor students at our high school this year. Tutoring services for all students in grades 7-12 will start on Monday Oct. 22 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. The tutoring session will meet in the Driver's Ed. Room on Tuesdays.
Thank you to Jeannie Travis, Mary Elizabeth Bezanson and our junior parents for making sub sandwiches and volunteering their time on Wednesday, Oct. 17 for the MAHS post-prom party. Without our parents/guardians' hard work and service, we at MAHS could not offer such wonderful opportunities for our kids.
Thank you to the Morris Area Foundation for their generous contribution of Smartboards to our schools. Increasing technology and technological access for our students is always a goal. The Morris Area Foundation also funds our Dollars for Scholars program. The Dollars for Scholars funds go directly to our graduating students to help further their education and career path. We could not succeed without you.
As always, we want to keep the lines of communication open between stakeholders and the school, please contact me at 320-585-2200 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org anytime or stop in the high school to visit.
