Former Moorhead resident Odelia A. Kalvik, 87, of Lake Park, died Thursday, March 26, 2009 at Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park.
Odelia "Ode" Amanda Kaastad was born to Ole and Dora (Kaaland) Kaastad on Sept. 3, 1921 in Hannaford, N.D. She was baptized at Union Lutheran Church in Hannaford and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Valley City, N.D.
Ode attended elementary school at Hannaford and graduated from Valley City High School in 1939. She worked for a time at Valley City State Teacher's College. Ode married Arvid Kalvik on July 5, 1941, and they lived at Army bases in Wyoming, Washington and Oklahoma during World War II.
After Arvid was discharged from the service in 1945, he and Ode lived in Detroit Lakes and Valley City before settling in Fargo in 1952. Ode worked at Dakota Clinic and later St. Luke's Hospital, both in Fargo. She retired from the housekeeping department in October 1983. Arvid died on Feb. 12, 1984.
Surviving Ode are her son, Jerry Kalvik (fiancée Patti Cummins) of Fargo; four grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Ode was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol; her parents; three sisters, Alma, Olga and Grace; and a brother, Orville.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 2, followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Korsmo Funeral Chapel in Moorhead.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, April 3, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fargo. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
