Rain quickly gave way to large, wet snowflakes Thursday, and the seasons changed from autumn to "Aw, no!" when many drivers realized they had yet to throw the snow brush back into the car for the winter. The West Central Research and Outreach Center reported that the area received a record 1.7 inches of rain on Thursday -- the previous mark of 0.7 inches was recorded in 2000 -- and then another 3.4 inches of snow was piled on top of that. The local forecast calls for high temperatures in the low 30s today, with a 10 percent chance of snow, and partly cloudy weather returning on Sunday and Monday. The situation might be different by Veterans Day on Tuesday, with high temperatures predicted to hit the mid-60s.
