Owl girls open season with one loss and one win
Courtney Greiner had 12 points and seven rebounds to pace Hancock in its season opener with Pelican Rapids. The Owls lost to the Vikings 68-29 in their first home game. Sami Schmidgall pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and also assisted on three baskets.
Four players scored in double figures for Pelican Rapids, which made eight 3-pointers while the Owls didn't attempt a shot from beyond the arc.
Hancock posted its first win on Nov. 29 over Brandon/Evansville defeating them 71-53.
Courtney Greiner poured in 24 points, Gabbi Nienhaus 17, Sami Schmidgall 15 and Lexi Steege 9. Brandon/Evansville relied on the 3-point shot making 8 of 24 in a losing effort.
The win is the first for Hancock's new coach Darin Zimmerman, 23, a native of Rothsay who worked in the Crookston basketball program while getting his degree at North Dakota.
