Owls ranked number two in sub-section tournament
By Kristi Fehr
The Hancock Owls played their last regular season match against the 3rd ranked team in state Class A, the Canby Lancers. In order to win this match the Owls were going to have to play smart ball and keep the mistakes to a minimum. Unfortunalety they came out flat and never recovered losing in three matches 19-25, 20-25, 20-25. They missed 10 serves and passed 58 percent, two key factors in the loss. Hancock was unable to get any momentum and offense going to get them back into the games. Bree Holleman had 10 kills for the night and 6 digs, digging up some tough balls from their big hitters. Kendra Schmidgall had 10 kills and Aria Walstad came away with 20 set assists.
The regular season record ends at 19-6-1. Sub-section tournaments get started on Thursday with the first round being played at the high seed home court. The Owls were ranked second so they received a bye and will play on Friday night at home against the winner of CGB and Henning. "This is a great group of girls with a great deal of talent and hopefully they will step up their play and show this for tournaments," commented Coach Fehr.
