Owls upset by Wheaton/Herman-Norcross
MORRIS -- The third time really is the charm sometimes.
Wheaton/Herman-Norcross entered Tuesday's Section 6A-South volleyball semifinals against Hancock with four losses, two of which came in five-game regular-season matches against the Owls.
WHN needed just four games to exact revenge, ending the Owls' 21-game winning streak and their season 25-15, 18-25, 26-24 and 25-17 at the University of Minnesota, Morris.
WHN, the No. 5 seed in the subsection despite a 24-4 record, advances to the South subsection finals against Underwood on Thursday at Minnewaska High School.
Hancock finished a solid season 28-2.
Wheaton's Shaela TeKrony had 18 kills and a .350 attack percentage, while the Warriors limited Hancock star Kendra Schmidgall to a .194 percentage, although Schmidgall did contribute 25 of Hancock's 41 kills.
The Owls' Courtney Greiner had 11 kills and 4 service aces, and setter Shae Brown had 24 assists.
Schmidgall had 2 block aces while Greiner and Abby Ascheman each had one.
The teams' third match hinged Wheaton committing fewer errors. Wheaton made 25 attacking errors in 158 attempts compared to Hancock's 34 in 159 attacks. The Owls also committed 11 receiving errors compared to Wheaton's six.
