The Storm boys committed nine penalties which Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato took advantage of to score six power-play goals in a 9-3 win Saturday, Dec. 4 in Benson. With the loss, the Storm fall to 1-1 on the young season.
The march to the penalty box started early for the Storm as they were called for four infractions in the opening period and LDC capitalized on all of them, taking a 4-1 lead into the first intermission. The Storm took advantage of one of their two power-play opportunities when Tyler Hansen found Jake Huston open in front of Dragon goalie Derek Sherman and Huston scored to temporarily draw the Storm to within 2-1.
Andrew Fath was again in net for the Storm and he made 13 saves in a busy first period with all of the extra man advantage situations for LDC. Sherman made eight saves in period number one.
The second period started much like the first as the Storm was called for another penalty just 22 seconds in and LDC scored again. After an even strength goal for the Dragons, Ethan Ratliff-Crain scored another power-play goal for the Storm, assisted by Luke Schwarz. The Dragons then scored again on the power play, putting them at 6 for 6 with the man advantage to this point, ending the second-period scoring with LDC leading 7-2. Each goalie came up with six saves in the period.
LDC added two even-strength goals in the final period, sandwiched around a Hansen goal with Brody Gimberlin picking up his first varsity point with an assist, to make the final score 9-3. Fath stopped nine more shots in the period for a game total of 28, while Sherman made five for a game total of 19.
