Philip Schaefer throws no hitter in a game vs. Ortonville

This was another pitching dual for the Owls with the score ending 1-0 in favor of Hancock. Philip Schaefer threw all four innings with seven strike-outs. The only run came in the top of the first with two outs with Jerid Berning hitting a single, stealing second base followed by Taylor Holleman with an RBI double scoring Jerid. Offensively Philip Schaefer, Jerid Berning and Taylor Holleman led the Owls with one hit each. The Owls played a great defensive game in the field which helped seal the win.

Game 2

Owls improve to 4-0

To start the game in the top of the first with one out, Philip Schaefer had a single advancing to second on a passed ball followed by a Jerid Berning RBI single scoring Schaefer. Berning eventually stole second base. Taylor Holleman then reached on an error scoring Berning. In the bottom of the first Ortonville scores a run giving the Owls a 2-1 lead. Top of the second, Brendan Jensen led of with a single and advancing to second on a passed ball. With two outs, Patrick Koehl followed with an RBI double scoring Jensen with Koehl stealing third base and eventually scoring on a passed ball. Still with two outs Schaefer reached base on a single followed by a Berning RBI single scoring Schaefer. In the top of the fourth, Hancock scored another run. Koehl started off by reaching on a walk, stealing second and third. With two outs Schaefer hit an RBI double scoring Koehl. The last two runs came in the top of the fifth with one out and Jerrid Jepma reaching on a double then scoring on a Ross Ascheman RBI double, Ascheman advanced to third on a passed ball. Still with one out Evan Nelson had an RBI single scoring Ascheman. Final score Hancock 8 Ortonville 1. Leading the Owls with hits was Schaefer going 3-3 and Berning going 2-3. A defensive highlight was a great catch in the bottom of the third by Jepma making a diving catch at the catcher's position. Patrick Koehl also struck out seven Trojans picking up his first win of the year.
