Pope County Commissioner Gordy Wagner exploring run in House District 12B
GLENWOOD — Pope County Commissioner Gordy Wagner of Glenwood is exploring a possible run for the District 12B Minnesota House of Representatives seat currently held by Paul Anderson, Republican of Starbuck.
According to a news release, Wagner told delegates at the Pope County DFL convention in Glenwood on Sunday that he is likely to seek the DFL endorsement for state representative in District 12B. The district includes most of Pope County and portions of Douglas and Stearns Counties.
A lifelong resident of Pope County, Wagner was previously elected to two terms as a Glenwood City Commissioner. He is currently in his second elected term as Pope County Commissioner and has served as chair of the Pope County Board of Commis-sioners and on various state committees.
A Vietnam War veteran, Wagner serves as commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3815, and he has been active in promoting programs to help veterans and their families. He has also organized numerous Memorial Day programs. After he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, Wagner was a small businessman, owning and operating several small trucking firms for over 30 years.
The endorsement convention is scheduled for April 13 at the Minnewaska House.
