Precinct caucuses set for Tuesday
MORRIS, Minn. - The Stevens County Republican, Democratic and Independence parties will gather for precinct caucuses on Tuesday, Feb. 7 in three locations around the Morris area.
The Republicans will caucus from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Prairie Inn in the Cougar Room.
The Democrats will caucus beginning at 7 p.m. at Morris Area Elementary School in the common room/lunchroom.
The Independence Party will caucus at the Morris Public Library at 7 p.m.
In this year's caucus, local Republicans will participate in a presidential straw poll, elect delegates and alternates to the county convention and write and present resolutions for the county convention scheduled for Friday, March 2 at 7 p.m. at the Morris Senior Center. Caucus participants must be at least 18 on election day and be residents of Stevens County. Observers are also welcome to attend the caucus.
At the DFL precinct caucus, participants will cast a Presidential Preferences Ballot to show their preference in the upcoming election. Ballots can only be cast in person, and no absentee balloting is allowed. Attendees will have the opportunity to run and vote for delegates to represent the precinct at the county convention on Monday, March 26. There will also be an opportunity to introduce and debate resolutions for possible inclusion in the Minnesota DFL Party's platform and elect precinct chairs for the next two years.
Anyone who will be eligible to vote in Minnesota by Nov. 6, 2012 may vote in the DFL preference ballot. Anyone age 16 or over can participate in caucus business.
