This is the 15th year in a row that Scholastic Books has held a book fair at Hancock School. The theme this year is to be an "All Star Reader!" The book fair is going to be set up all week in the Hancock Library, Oct. 1-5.

Librarian Susan Stevenson states, "The purpose of this book fair is to help promote reading." The fair is designed for pre-school through 8th graders. The senior high is still welcome to attend when they have time.

The book fair not only has books to read, it also has picture books, reference books, and even cook books. Calculators, pens, pencils, highlighters, posters and book marks are also sold at the fair. The most popular items besides books seem to be the writing utensils.

Students get time during the week to preview the books for sale. Students also get time during the day to make book purchases. Parents are invited to come at their child's designated time. Ask your child's teacher if you want to know the time their class will be at the book fair.

The elementary and middle school students get to watch a DVD of the authors previewing their books. Watching the DVD helps students get a better idea if they would be interested in purchasing that book.

The book fair couldn't be held each year without the help of special volunteers. The volunteers this year are Heidi Nohl, Janelle Koehl, and Sandy Nelson.

The money raised from this book fair is divided between the elementary teachers, the high school English department, and the library. The money is then used to purchase books to add to their classroom collections.

Hopefully community members will be able to come to the book fair this week, make some purchases, and support our school in the process. See you at the fair.
