Public invited to University of Minnesota, Morris 2011 Wind Festival concerts

Morris, Minn. -- The University of Minnesota, Morris (UMM) will host the 2011 Wind Festival on Friday, Nov. 4, and Saturday, Nov. 5. The Wind Festival is an annual event for high school wind, brass, and percussion players. The two action-packed days of concerts and workshops will focus on rehearsing and performing chamber music as well as wind ensemble repertoire. The public is invited to a concert each day of the event.

The UMM Chamber Winds and Brass Ensemble will perform the repertoire's best known works in a concert on Friday, Nov. 4, at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Nov. 5, at 1 p.m., the UMM Symphonic Winds will give a short lunchtime concert featuring works by Susato, Gould, and Holst.

The 2011 Wind Festival's featured artists are Simon Tillier, UMM conductor and teaching specialist, and Preston Duncan, UMM's new saxophone teaching specialist and a Yamaha Young Performance Artist. Duncan will teach a saxophone master class in addition to performing Bernhard Heiden's "Diversion" with the Symphonic Winds.
