Radiothon to End Child Abuse Dec. 6 and 7

MORRIS - On Thursday, Dec. 6 through Friday, Dec. 7 the Stevens County Child Abuse Prevention Council is joining with Douglas, Pope, Grant, and Todd County Child Abuse Prevention councils and KIK-FM to host the annual Radiothon to End Child Abuse.

Stevens County Family Well Being Committee is a part of a statewide network developed by the Children's Trust Fund. This network includes representatives of various agencies and community members who are concerned with the prevention of child maltreatment.

Past fundraising efforts have supported local education programs such as Morris and Chokio/Alberta ECFE, child development and family living classes at Morris and Chokio/Alberta high school. Funds have also supported Safe Exchange/Parenting Time Center of the Region IV council on domestic violence, a parenting home visiting program and radKIDS (a personal empowerment safety program for parents and children), and a variety of information and materials for families.

We are encouraging organizations, businesses, and individuals to help the prevention council provide education programs and materials which increase community awareness of the effects of child abuse and neglect and to offer information and support to families. You can participate by making a pledge during the Radiothon.

Stevens County Representatives will be at the phones on Dec. 6 from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. to take your pledge or to accept your bid on these auction items:

• Stevens Community Medical Center - Nook (Value: $120.00)

• Chanhassen Dinner Theatre - Two show tickets (Value: $110.00)
