In a penalty-filled first period the Storm got on the board first when Tyler Hansen converted a pass from Peter Lindblad at the 13:16 mark. Andreas Siggelin also got an assist on the goal.

John Welch of the Cardinals tied the game just 2:03 later with a power-play goal, but the Storm took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission when Ethan Ratliff-Crain scored on a rebound of a Hansen shot with just 41 seconds remaining.

Special teams carried the action as the Storm was called for four penalties in the period and the Cardinals for two.

Storm goalie Will Johnson made six saves in the period and the Redwood Valley goalie, John Rebstock, made four.

Redwood Valley quickly tied the game in the second period when Hanson scored just 55 seconds into the period. They took a 3-2 lead at the 5:33 mark when Nick Schmidt got the puck past Johnson.

Lindblad then tied the game with an unassisted goal just 18 seconds later, but another MBA penalty led to a power-play goal for the Cardinals' Schmidt at 7:21 and they held the 4-3 lead heading into the third period.

Saves for the period were nine for Johnson and four for Rebstock.

Juho Luhtakanta tied the score at 4-4 with his first goal as a member of the Storm with an assist to Siggelin with 10:47 remaining in the third period, but then Hanson scored after yet another MBA penalty for the eventual game winner.

The Storm had a couple of good chances in the final minute after pulling goalie Johnson, but they could not get the puck past Rebstock for the tying goal.

Johnson made six saves in the third for a game total of 21, while Rebstock made four more for a total of 12.

MBA now plays at North Branch on Saturday before returning home to the Lee Community Center in Morris for games against Northern Lakes on Tuesday and against Wahpeton on Thursday. Both games start at 7 p.m.
