Mary Rentz, a 2010 graduate of Morris Area, was a Hengstler-Ranweiler Award nominee. The award is presented by the West Central Tribune of Willmar.
The award is given annually to the area's outstanding male and female high school athletes. It is named after Lefty Ranweiler and Herb Hengstler, two longtime sports editors at the Tribune.
This year, there were 20 male nominees and 15 female nominees. The winners were Joel Bauman of Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg and Abby Fragodt of Benson.
Rentz started three seasons in volleyball. She had 311 kills and 380 digs in her career.
In basketball, Rentz averaged 13.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.3 steals per game as a senior. Throughout her three-year career, she had 610 points, 218 rebounds, 125 assists, and 105 steals.
Rentz started in four seasons of softball. In her career, she was a .375 hitter and held a .924 fielding percentage as short stop. In 2010, she batted .385 with 10 extra-base hits.
