The Regional Fitness Center will celebrate its 10th anniversary on Oct. 10-11 with free access to its pool and gym, lunch and a variety of activities on Saturday, and a pancake breakfast on Sunday morning.

The RFC was dedicated Oct. 16, 1999 through a collaboration of the City of Morris, Stevens County, the University of Minnesota, Morris and the Morris Area School District.

Joint projects like it are sometimes difficult to pull off, but the RFC is an example of success, said Wayne Morford, RFC Director.

"It actually worked really well," Morford said. "It's been a great collaboration, and it's the people in a collaboration who make it work."

From noon to 7:30 p.m., there will be free access to the pool and gym, and from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., a pulled-pork dinner will be served. Other activities include a Fun Run/Walk on the UMM campus, a free throw shooting contest, the game RFC Clue, and wall climbing

Harvest Moon Fun includes a pumpkin carving contest -- contestants bring in carved or painted pumpkins for judging -- and a coloring contest.

A sand volleyball tournament begins at 5 p.m. At 6 p.m., there is a Community Recognitions Ceremony for adults while kids can take part in Movie in the Pool, featuring the movie "Shark Tale."

During the ceremony, 10-year members, donors and community partners will be recognized. Morford also will present visions for the RFC's future.

The pancake breakfast is from 8 a.m. to noon at the RFC.

All 10-year members are encouraged to participate in the ceremony and can contact Morford at (320) 589-6484.
