Richard A. Odden, age 61, of rural Otter Tail City died on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009 in his home. Visitation will be on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, 4 to 7 p.m. at the Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls. Funeral services will be held after the visitation on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Eidskog Cemetery in Ortonville.

Richard "Dick" Alfred was born on July 13, 1948 in Big Stone County, Ortonville to parents Alfred and Delores (Roeder) Odden. Dick graduated from Chokio High School in 1966. He attended trade school in Minneapolis and graduated with a 2-year degree in accounting. Dick enlisted in the U.S. Army for a short time until he received a medical discharge.

On July 15, 1972 Dick was united in marriage to Deborah Berndt at the Congregational Church in Pelican Rapids. To this union three children were born; Jim, Amanda and David. They lived in various locations and later Dick and Deborah were divorced. In February of 1988 Dick married Brenda Sergeant in Las Vegas, Nev. and lived in CaƱon City, Colo., until they were later divorced. Dick farmed in Minnesota, did construction and carpentry work in Minnesota, Colorado, Wisconsin and Nebraska.

Dick enjoyed collecting license plates and sports cards. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Minnesota Twins. Dick is best known for his sense of humor; he was the only man who could catch a nap while driving.

On Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, Dick died at the age of 61 years, in his home in rural Otter Tail City.

Survivors include his three children and eight grandchildren, Jim (Kristal) Odden and their children Allen, Bethany and Cecelia of Alexandria, Amanda Weston and her children Nicholas and Dasan of Perham, and David (Jeanne) Odden and their children Mercedeez, Jennifer and Adam of Pelican Rapids; four brothers, Gerald Odden, Al Odden, Joe (Naomi) Odden, and John (Barb) Odden; and five sisters, Rosie (Carl) Doehtry, Jeannie (Chuck) Damerow, Linda Lorenz, Lois Irwin, and Mary Berning. Dick is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Chucky Odden; one sister, Jeanette Odden; and one nephew, Josh Odden.
