Robert J. Burt, 48, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, November 30, 2007 in rural Detroit Lakes.

Robert Joseph Burt was born to Robert and Vivian (Dodds) Burt on March 24, 1959 at Ainsworth, Neb. As a child, he moved to Detroit Lakes, where he grew up and attended school. After school, he moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where he worked on offshore oil rigs and began working in construcction. He would continue working in construction for the rest of his life, becoming a subcontractor and working all over the United States.

An avid fisherman, he loved the ocean and the beach. He enjoyed dabbling in architectural design, and was a prolific reader. He enjoyed cooking, even attending culinary school. He loved his family above all else and was a dedicated family man.

Surviving Robert are his children, Jennifer (Burt) Qualia of Corpus Christi, Texas. Robert J. Burt, Jr. of Dallas, Texas and Justin Burt of Detroit Lakes; mother, Vivian Hays of Detroit Lakes; three brothers, William ( Debbie) Dillon of Detroit Lakes, Lyle Shawn (Mary) Burt of Denton, Texas and Jeffrey Hays of Detroit Lakes; three sisters, Lori Gress of Detroit Lakes, Tresa (Shawn) Ohman of Detroit Lakes and Jeanne (Keith) Ayotte of Charleston, S.C.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents; father, Robert; and one brother, Charles Hays.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at First Baptist Church, Detroit Lakes, with the Rev. Jim Hinson officiating.

Casketbearers are Justin Burt, Jeffrey Hays, Joshua Rosenbach, Shaun Ohman, Kyle Burt amd Michael Hays; interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
