Robert Lloyd McHone, 85, of Mesa, AZ, passed away on June 11, 2014. Robert was born on September 20, 1928 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Mable McHone. Robert was an outstanding football player in high school and after graduating from Ortonville High School he started farming just outside of Ortonville with his wife Irene. Robert after 15 years of farming went back to Canby Technical earning a certificate as a farm machinery mechanic. Roberts second career was with United Parcel Service where he was a mechanic for 11 years and a driver for 12 years. After retiring in 1987 Robert enjoyed his time taking in music festivals, tinkering with his 1930 Ford Model A and meeting his retired friends at McDonalds for coffee every day.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Irene McHone; sons, Ron McHone (Sylvia), Gary McHone (Debbie), Kevin McHone (Holly), and Joe McHone (Lydia); ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brother, Allen French; and sister, Lorraine Casler. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mable; brother, Donald French; sister, Audrey Fredrickson and grandson Capt. Nathan McHone USMC.
Robert loved Minnesota and everything that the state had to offer including the great outdoors where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and the tranquility of his beloved 37 acres hobby farm.
