Safety First Day Camps draw students from throughout area
In 2007 Safety First Day Camps reached about 400 5th grade students from 12 schools in West Central Minnesota with critical safety education.
Keeping our youth safe is a priority for the Safety First Coalition Team as childhood injury is still the No. 1 cause of death of children today.
In 2008, the Safety First Day Camps is May 13-14 at the Lee Community Center in Morris.
Safety First has received national recognition for teaching safety to youth in a "hands-on learning" format and also networking with many agencies in the community to focus on the safety of the youth.
The objectives of the program are to:
Develop hazard recognition skills among the participants;
Teach safety in a hands-on, interactive learning setting;
Develop proper actions in farm and home situations;
Reduce the number of childhood injuries.
Schools in West Central Minnesota build the Safety First program into their curriculum for the day and the students participate in the field trip setting.

Bicycle Safety

Big Stone County -- Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley Elementary, James Knoll Elementary, Ortonville
Chippewa County -- Lac qui Pane Middle School
Grant County -- Herman-Norcross Elementary, West Central Area North and South Elementary
Pope County -- Minnewaska Area Intermediate School
Stevens County -- Chokio-Alberta Elementary, Hancock Elementary, Morris Elementary and St. Mary's Elementary
Swift County -- Benson Elementary
Traverse County -- Browns Valley Elementary, Pearson Elementary, Wheaton
