Scott named Jackie Robinson Foundation scholar in 2009
Christopher Scott, 2009 graduate of Morris Area High School, was named a Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholar in June, 2009. This scholarship is a four year renewable monetary award for $24,000. Christopher, son of Rickey and Cheryl Scott of Morris, will be attending the annual Jackie Robinson Awards Ceremony and Networking Weekend in New York City March 5-8. The event is at the Waldorf Astoria in downtown Manhattan with all travel, room, and food provided.
This weekend allows JRF Scholars from throughout the United States to connect and network with representatives of all sponsors and major corporations, including professional sports teams.
The annual emcee of the event is Dr. Bill Cosby. Rachel Robinson, Jackie's widow, Spike Lee, NIKE, and Unilever present monetary awards to upper classmen for their achievements. Individuals who have contributed to the hope of keeping Jackie Robinson's accomplishments alive are also recognized. Past honorees include Robert Redford and Robyne Robinson.
Christopher's scholarship is sponsored by the Jackie Robinson Foundation/University of Minnesota/Wells Fargo Corporation. He has been given the opportunity of employment with the Wells Fargo Corporation in the future.
