Second half run dooms Cougars
UMM Sports Information
The University of Minnesota Morris Cougar womens’ basketball team could not overcome a second half run by Wisconsin-Eau Claire as they fell 72-53.
Kendra Wycoff had a season high 17 points and hit 5 of 11 three pointers. Tori Holt had a season high 11 points off the bench.
It was tight first half as the Cougars and Blugolds went back and forth. Wycoff had eight points and Brooke Decker had six in the opening fifteen minutes of play. Minnesota Morris trailed by two with just over four minutes to play thanks to a jumper from Holt but the Blugolds got some breathing room as they hit a three pointer as time expired in the first half, giving them a 32-25 lead at the break.
Eau Claire shot 50.0% from the field in the first half and was 4-9 from three as they built up their seven point lead. Morris had 16 points from their bench in the half which kept them in the contest.
The Blugolds opened the second half on a 10-2 run, pushing their lead to 15. The lead grew to 20 but UMM did not let them run away with the contest, cutting the lead ten with 6:30 left. Unfortunately Morris could get no closer, falling 72-53 on the night.
The Cougars will be back in action Friday, for Ugly Sweater night, as they host Mayville State at 5:30 p.m. in the P.E. Center.
