The time is drawing closer for the Morris National Guard unit to be deployed. The community rallied around the troops five years ago as they prepared to leave. We are now preparing to stand behind them again.

The deployment ceremony for the 1-151 Field Artillery is Saturday, March 28, at 5 p.m. at the Morris Area Elementary School Gymnasium.

In keeping with a long-standing tradition of wearing red on Fridays to support the troops, a special red shirt is being made available to honor the 1-151 troops.

Orders are being taken for short-sleeve, red Polo-style shirts that will be embroidered with the unit's mascot through D's Needles, of Morris, and can be worn in a show of support at the ceremony. The Morris and Ortonville units selected a Tiger as the mascot, which will be embroidered on the shirts.

The shirts can be ordered at any time, but those who want a shirt in time for the March 28 ceremony must order by Monday, March 9.

For costs and order forms, contact D's Needles at (320) 585-5858. The Morris Chamber of Commerce Web site's Recent News section at www.morrismnchamber.org has a copy of an order blank that can be printed and filled out, and order information can also be sent to D's Needles via an email address listed on the site.

A portion of the proceeds from the shirt sales will be donated to the Morris Family Readiness Group.
