Six file for Stevens County Commissioner
MORRIS, Minn. - The candidate filing period for federal, state, county and some local offices has closed.
A total of six candidates have filed for three seats on the Stevens County Board of Commissioners.
Here are the candidates for Stevens County office:
County Commissioner District 1: Bob Kopitzke, Paul Watzke (incumbent)
This district includes Ward 1A & 2A in the City of Morris.
County Commissioner District 3: Ron Staples (incumbent), Jim Swenson
This district includes Moore, Horton, Synnes, Stevens and Baker townships and the communities of Chokio and Hancock.
County Commissioner District 4: Donny Wohlers, Diane K. Nelson
This district includes Darnen Township and Ward 3 in the City of Morris. Incumbent commissioner Larry Sayre did not seek re-election.
Soil and Water Supervisor District 1: Dave Lonergan
Soil and Water Supervisor District 4: Don Huntley
Soil and Water Supervisor District 5: Kirby Hufford
In Minnesota Senate District 12, current State Representative Torrey Westrom has filed. He will be challenged by DFL candidate John Schultz of Correll.
Three candidates have filed for the open seat in Minnesota House District 12A: Dave Holman (Independence Party), Scott Dutcher (GOP), and Jay McNamar (DFL).
For the U.S. House of Representatives in District 7, incumbent Collin Peterson (DFL) and challengers Lee Byberg (Republican) and Adam Steele (Independence Party) have filed.
The filing period for school board and city council elections, which do not have a primary election, opens on Tuesday, July 31 and closes Tuesday, Aug. 14.
Three local school board members will finish their terms this year: Stan Wulf, Dick Metzger and Jamie Solvie.
Two Morris city councilmen will also finish their terms, Bill Storck and Matt Carrington.
