Something's Cookin' at the Morris Public Library this summer

Studies show that students who don't read over the summer are less prepared for school success in the fall. The Morris Public Library makes summer a piece of cake with the 2008 summer reading program "Look What's Cookin' At Your Library."

The Morris Public Library will offer special entertainment and reading incentives that stir things up at the library. This year's program will run from June 9 through July 5

Here's some of the entertainment and activities planned this summer.

• Tuesday, June 10, beginning at 3:30 p.m., the magician "Star" will perform. Following the show, root beer floats will be served.

• Tuesday, June 17, magician Jon Adams will cook up some delightful surprises beginning at 1 p.m., and a snack will be served.

• Monday, June 23, the Viking Library System is sponsoring storyteller Holly Ristau's visit to the library beginning at 6:30 p.m. Treats from Coborn's will follow the stories.

• A final special entertainer will be storyteller Bob Gasche on Thursday, July 10 at 3:30 p.m. Common Cup will provide snacks following his presentation.

No pre- registration is required for these events.

Also returning for the summer will be the Lunch Bunch. Lunch Bunch is geared for kindergarten to third grade students and will be held on four Thursdays from noon to 1 p.m. from June 12 through July 3. Participants should bring a sack lunch

Students interested should sign up ahead of time by calling or stopping by the library.

New this summer is our "Cookie Night" set for July 1, beginning at 6 p.m. There will be a chocolate chip cookie contest, cookie decorating and lots more fun.

All events are free. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call (320) 589-1634.
