Grade 1: We celebrated All Saints Day at Mass on Tuesday. We had no homework day on Monday for our marathon reward and on Friday we got to watch a movie and have popcorn for our other marathon reward. In science we are busy learning about animals, their habitats and how they survive. In math we are working on equations with unknown numbers.

Grade 2: The second graders are spelling words with long e this week. We read a folktale about a larger than life woman that treated the people, animals and plants around her with respect and care. The story had several Spanish words in it which gave us an opportunity to brush up on some of our Spanish. We carved pumpkins in small groups. Then we estimated and counted the number of seeds in each pumpkin. We were surprised at how many there were!

Grade 3: The third graders discussed the importance of "dignity" as we worked with our Columbian Mission unit. It stressed our call to help others in need and to treat everyone with respect. We completed our first letter to our pen pal from the third grade class in Chokio-Alberta. In math we are working with rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100 and comparing numbers. We all enjoyed the beautiful weather for Monday evenings trick or treating and we also brought our Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF boxes with us. We welcomed our new saint statue "St. Anthony" to our classroom.

Grade 4: Every month St. Mary's School has a new word for the month that we learn about. This month it is gratitude and the 4th graders are in charge of doing something to teach the rest of the students about this word. We found some quotes about gratitude that we are doing skits about. One of our favorite quotes and one we think everyone should think about is "God gave you 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say "thank you?" ~ William A. Ward

Grade 5: The fifth graders are working on identifying simple subjects in English class. We have also been working on decimal places up to the billions and billionths place. In religion class we are studying about different religions around the world and how we should respect others' beliefs. We also received a new saint statue in our classroom- St. Francis.

Grade 6: During Math we are multiplying and dividing decimals to solve decimal equations. In English we are combining sentences that have the same subjects and predicates. We celebrated All Saints Day on Tuesday and began to learn about our "class" saint, St. Jude. We learned that Saint Jude is the patron saint of lost causes and the impossible. His feast day is Oct. 28.
