St. Mary's Samplings
Kindergarten: We worked with the Th sound this week and learned to read the words, they and that. It was Gabby Schneider's Wonderful Week and we got to tour the airport where Grandma Dorothy works! Pilot Chad gave the tour along with grandma and let us sit in a nice airplane. We had a good May Day. Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Grade 1: Happy May Day to everyone! This week we read about bugs, which was very fitting for our spring season. We worked on making predictions and checking if our predictions were correct. In math we have started a unit on measurement. We are working with inches this week. We learned about different jobs people do in social studies and in science we are just starting to learn about matter.
Grade 2: We are learning about stormy weather in reading this week. We finished reading a story called "Super Storms." In addition, we have been talking about safety related to stormy weather. Many of us have been sharing stories about their place of safety at home. We have also practiced going to areas of safety at school. In science, we are learning about matter. We are focusing on properties of solids, liquids and gases.
Grade 3: We had lots of fun on Tuesday delivering May Baskets to people who do so many services for us at St. Mary's during the school year. We sincerely thank Donny Wohlers for driving us around in the Old #1 bus so we could make all our deliveries. We continued to work with measurement in math and also read temperatures in degrees fahrenheit and celsius. In social studies we discussed inventions and tried to think of the invention that might have been the most important or changed the world the most.
Grade 4: The fourth graders have been working on comparing fractions with a like denominator. They have also been studying about the American Revolution and the writing of the Declaration of Independence in social studies class. We also enjoyed attending Safety Day at The Lee Community Center. We learned so much and we appreciate all the volunteers who took time out of their day to teach us about safety.
Grade 5: The fifth graders had the opportunity to attend Safety Day at The Lee Community Center. We learned about lawn mower safety, ATV safety, bike safety, and many other things. It was a great day, and we would like to thank all of the volunteers who took time out of their busy schedules to teach us. We are also starting to divide fractions in math class. In reading we are working on finding meanings of words with multiple meanings.
Grade 6: We were on the move this week. On Tuesday we celebrated May Day by chasing after the students that delivered us baskets full of candy. On Thursday we traveled to Bonanza State Park on Big Stone Lake for Conservation Day and on Friday we attended the Cinco de Mayo celebration put on by Ms. Snow's Spanish classes. In math we are learning to find the volume of prisms and cylinders and in science we grew crystals and tested liquids to see if they were acids, bases, or neutral.
