Kindergarten: We celebrated Miles Eble's Wonderful Week this week! We had lots of pre-school visitors come and try out a day. The kinder kids enjoy that. We worked with the Sh sound which is good because we painted ourselves as bird watchers and you need to be quiet when you are watching birds. Stop by and see, but be sure to shhhh! so you don't scare away the birds.

Grade 1: Happy Mother's Day to all the moms! We worked on measurement and estimation this week. We finished our measurement unit and took our test. In science we learned to measure mass with a balance. In reading we read the story "Super Oscar." It is a story about a little boy who daydreams a lot. We also worked on some special Mother's Day gifts this week.

Grade 2: The second graders are finishing their science unit on matter. They have learned about solids, liquids, gases and their properties. We had a great time on our field trip to Historic Chippewa City in Montevideo. We traveled throughout the village learning about life long ago. Costumed guides helped us learn more about one room schoolhouses, wheat weaving, folk music, spinning wheels, blacksmithing and fur trading.

Grade 3: The third graders completed their last Aims reading test of the year. In math they continued their work with metric capacity, improper fractions and mixed numbers in measurement, temperature, and customary and metric units of weight. Their Scholastic News discussed the 2012 Summer Olympics which will begin on July 27 in London, England. They wish all mothers a Happy Mother's Day on Sunday!

Grade 4: The fourth graders had a chance to sing for the Healing Mass on Tuesday. It was a beautiful service to be a part of. We have started to add and subtract fractions with like denominators this week. We also learned what the radius, diameter, and the circumference of a circle is. We also had a chance to visit on the computer with our old classmate Peyton Riley who moved. We sure miss him.

Grade 5: Officer Anita Liebl presented the class with information on severe weather and how to stay safe and make good decisions. We continue to study about the American Revolution. We are becoming more and more grateful for what people did and had to sacrifice for us to gain our independence. We had a lesson on adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions and did a fabulous job remembering when we need to find a common denominator and when we don't.

Grade 6: The sixth graders read a biographical sketch called "Major Taylor Champion Cyclist." In math we are working with integers, absolute value, and coordinate planes. On Friday we went to the Morris Area High School for information for next year, a tour, and lunch.
