Kindergarten: This was "A" week and we had an awesome time. We celebrated Zach Dietz's Wonderful Week and what a wonderful time we had. We toured his mom's work at SCMC and his dad's work at the funeral home. We also became pirates for a day. We were excited for homecoming!
Grade 1: We are writing math addition equations and working on counting on to solve the equations. In social studies we are learning about how government services help us. Plants are very interesting to us. We learned the parts of a seed and that the flower is the part of the plant that makes the seeds. In reading we worked with words with the short /i/ sound and read different stories about how animals and people grow and change. We enjoyed the Homecoming parade on Friday.
Grade 2: On Monday, the second graders went on a field trip to SWELL. We saw many signs of fall and learned about migration, hibernation and camouflage as we hiked our way around. We also enjoyed our visit to the classroom and to the log cabin. Ranger Randee entertained us with a Native American tale while we ate s'mores that she had made. We had a good time at the marathon on Friday. We all walked and walked!
Grade 3: In math we continue to work with addition and subtraction and work to improve our skills so we know our facts well. Our reading story worked with the long o sound and words that have multiple meanings. In spelling we practiced adding -ed and -ing to words. We sometimes had trouble remembering when to drop the "e" or change a "y" to an "i" before adding the ending. Grandparent and Special Friend Day is Friday, Oct. 12 and we invite you to join us for our program at 1:30 p.m. at Assumption Church. We are practicing hard with Mrs. Hodgson to be ready for it!
Grade 4: In math we have been working on some of our more difficult factor partners: 4,6,7, and 8. We are working hard and are starting to really have them down. We are also learning all about subjects and predicates in English. We have begun to make our Flat Stanley posters of ourselves and hope to get them mailed out next week. We can't wait to see where "we" end up.
Grade 5: We have begun reading Wayside School is Falling Down by Louis Sachar. It is such an entertaining book. In math we have been learning about different properties of multiplication. In social studies we are learning about natural resources and which are renewable and nonrenewable.
Grade 6: This week in math we have been working on solving numerical and algebraic equations. We learned that an algebraic equation contains a variable which we need to find to solve the equation. Our spelling lesson was on adding -ed and -ing endings to words. In reading we read stories that were nonfiction based around the theme "Science for all". Friday was a fun-filled day because we walked for the marathon and attended the Homecoming parade.
