Kindergarten: What a great week we had! We toured the fire station on Monday, the firemen ate lunch with us on Tuesday, a trip to SWELL and to top it off Grandparents/Special Friends Day on Friday! It was fun to see so many people enjoying themselves at St. Mary's School. We even managed to get some work done.
Grade 1: Busy, busy, busy! We had concert practice for the Grandparent's Program. We had a fire safety presentation by the Morris Fire Department on Tuesday and then the firemen had lunch with us. We also had a fire drill. We are working hard with addition equations and were introduced to the nickel and penny. We used the nickels and pennies to practice our addition counting on strategy. We had a great time with our grandparents and special friends on Friday.
Grade 2: Our week has zoomed by. We have been talking about fire prevention at home and at school. Members of the fire department gave a presentation about fire safety and we also had a fire drill to practice getting out of the school building. In social studies we have finished our unit on government. We learned that there is a legislative, executive and judicial branch at the local, state and national level. It was fun to celebrate our grandparents on Friday with lunch, Mass and our program.
Grade 3: It was fun to have the Morris firemen visiting our school on Tuesday. They made a presentation on fire safety, conducted a fire drill, showed us their newest truck, gave us some information to take home, played with us on the playground and joined us for lunch. We appreciate the service they provide for the entire Morris area. In math we worked with line segments, the perimeter of figures, and parallel and perpendicular lines. We did a demo to help prepare us for our NWEA tests. On Friday we enjoyed welcoming our grandparents and special friends for lunch, Mass, a program, and a visit to our classrooms. We are looking forward to our school trip to the State Capitol and Target Field next Tuesday.
Grade 4: In reading class we have been talking about analyzing a story to learn more about the main characters and their traits. We are learning about several different properties of multiplication. We are learning about the commutative, associative, distributive, and identity property of multiplication. We also enjoyed singing and letting our grandparents and special friends know how much they mean to us!
Grade 5: In math class we are reviewing the area of a rectangle and a triangle. We are also talking about appropriate metric measurements for different objects. We started to read aloud the story True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by AVI. We are only a few chapters in and already we are very curious about what is going to transpire. We would like to thank all of our grandparents and special friends who came to share our special day with us!
Grade 6: This week in math we worked with inverse operations in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems. On Thursday we took our second test in math. In English we learned about friendly letters and then wrote friendly letters to our grandparents and special friends. On Tuesday we enjoyed having the Morris firemen join us for lunch and they also helped us with a practice fire drill. Friday was a special day with lunch, Mass, and our music program for our grandparents and special friends. This week was a very busy and fast week.
