St. Mary's Samplings
Kindergarten: We had a great short week. Our all-school trip to the capitol and Twins Stadium was fantastic and the kids were great. We got to learn a lot of facts about both places and the weather cooperated too. Thanks to all the parents who made the trip with us!
Grade 1: This week was a fun and quick week. We enjoyed our field trip on Tuesday. We learned a lot about Target Field and the state capitol building. We have enjoyed having our UMM Practicum student, Chrissy, teach us some great lessons about animals, how scientists group them, and how they survive in the regions they live in. In math we worked more with addition equations.
Grade 2: The second graders are measuring with centimeter rulers this week. We also learned to identify the features of a square, rectangle and triangle. We have also been studying the life cycles of a butterfly and a frog in science class. We are looking forward to swimming lessons starting next week.
Grade 3: Although it was another short school week we managed to get some work done. We are working with and drawing parallelograms, rectangles, squares, and rhombuses in math and are exploring their relationships. We worked with words with short "e" in spelling and worked on our Rosary booklet in religion. Our tour of the Minnesota capitol was very educational and we really enjoyed seeing Target Field. We are grateful that so many of our parents could join us on this all-school trip!
Grade 4: We had such an amazing week! We were able to tour our state capitol in St. Paul. We learned about Cass Gilbert, the man who designed it. We also learned many interesting facts about Minnesota. Then we went to tour Target Field. We learned so many interesting things about the Twins and the design of that building as well.
Grade 5: We had a great time on our all-school field trip this week. We toured our state capitol and learned so many interesting things about that beautiful building. We also were very excited to tour Target Field. We were able to see the dugouts, the locker rooms, press box, and we were even allowed to go on the field. Our tour guides were excellent, and we learned so many interesting facts about the Twins and Minnesota.
Grade 6: We had a short but phenomenal week. In math we started working with decimals and reviewing their place values. Tuesday was our all-school field trip that included a tour of the state capitol and Target Field. A few of our favorite memories were seeing the golden horses on the state capitol, learning that the stones in the capitol came from different places in Minnesota, seeing the chandelier from the rotunda close up and climbing the floating stairs. At the Target Field we got to see a bat shovel that was used to break ground, Kirby Puckett's real golden glove, the model of the field, the dugouts and learned that the designer of Paul and Minnie was paid $15 for his design. We learned so much and had a lot of fun!
