Kindergarten: This will be our last submission of 2012. We want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas! The kids did a fantastic job at the Christmas program---sang like angels! We are so blessed to have Linda. The teachers were treated to a delicious lunch provided by our parents. Thanks parents, we appreciate you.
Grade 1: What a busy week! We worked hard on practice for our program and it went wonderfully on Thursday night. We welcomed another classmate this week, also. It was like getting an early Christmas present...we are so glad to have Trey back with us. We worked hard on our special gifts for our parents. And we did manage to get some learning in, too. We worked with words with the long /a/ sound in spelling and we read silly stories in reading and talked about things that make us laugh. In math we are working on addition of larger numbers than 10 and we are doing great. Happy holidays from the first graders at St. Mary's!
Grade 2: We have enjoyed making many craft projects for Christmas this week. Our pop up Nativity card was fun to make and everyone was amazed at how it works. In math class, we were practicing adding two digit numbers. We also learned to estimate sums to 100. The second graders had a great time learning to skate for PE class. Christmas break may give many second graders an opportunity to practice their skating skills. We also had fun practicing and performing our Christmas program under the direction of Linda Hodgson. It was terrific! Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Grade 3: It has been a busy week trying to finish up Advent activities and Christmas surprises. In math we continued to work with data and graphs. Tuesday the staff was treated to a fabulous luncheon by our parents and in the afternoon Officer Anita came to talk to us about winter survival while traveling and brought us the last four items for our "Winter Survival Kit." We celebrated a reconciliation service with Father Bob on Wednesday to help us continue our Advent journey. Our Christmas program was wonderful on Thursday evening and we thank Mrs. Hodgson for all she does to prepare us. Mr. Hodgson is a great help as well. Friday afternoon we enjoyed a movie and treat with our friends and classmates. We wish you all a Blessed Christmas and hope you can enjoy lots of time with your family and friends. All the best to everyone in 2013!
Grade 4: We have had a very busy week. We finished our unit in skating in PE, and we worked so hard to get ready for our Christmas program. As always, Linda Hodgson and the kids did an amazing job. We also continued working on large numbers up to the millions place in math. We read an excerpt from the story Misty from Chincoteauge in reading class. We have some horse lovers in the room so they really enjoyed it. We would like to wish everyone a very Blessed Christmas!
Grade 5: We are learning about the northeast region of the United States in social studies. We also reviewed how to spell plural nouns ending in y in English class. We worked very hard this past week getting ready for the holidays by making Christmas ornaments and preparing for our Christmas program, which was beautiful. We are so lucky to have Mrs. Hodgson teaching our children music.
Grade 6: We had a full week with many activities before Christmas break. We practiced all week for our Christmas program that we performed on Thursday night. We also took a math test on operations with fractions, watched The Sign of the Beaver movie after we took our test, completed our Advent packets and made decorations. On Wednesday we also celebrated in a reconciliation service with Fr. Bob to prepare our hearts for the birth of Jesus. We wish you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
