Kindergarten: Yippee the storm missed us! We worked with the letter S this week and were hoping it would not bring Snow! Our leprechaun is still in our room and we still are not rich! We are pretty sure we will catch him though. We celebrated "Fat Tuesday" to help us prepare for Lent.

Grade 1: This week in social studies we learned how clothing and communication have changed over time. We also learned about how games and family free time has changed over time. In science we finished up our chapter "Looking At Earth" and took our test. We learned about how erosion and weathering can change land and rocks.

Grade 2: The second graders worked with subtraction using the expanded method and the ungroup method. The class seemed to like the ungroup method the best. They also worked with rounding to estimate differences. With the start of Lent the students are trying to make a sacrifice that can help change them and help others that are in need.

Grade 3: The third graders are working with solving multi step multiplication problems and multiplying two and three digit numbers by a one digit number. We find we need to do a lot of practice to remember all the facts! Our Scholastic News talked about the Civil War and we learned that there were many children who volunteered during that war to be Drummer Boys and messengers. They were the same age as some of us.

Grade 4: The fourth graders had fun presenting a play from our Reading book called "Red Writing Hood" to the first grade class this week. In this story, Red Writing hood makes some changes to popular nursery rhymes and fairy tales. In the end, Red realizes that the changes caused difficulties to the characters involved so she erases the changes she made and everyone lives "happily ever after".

Grade 5: This past week the fifth graders started reading and listening to two new novels. We are reading Shiloh Season by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor and we are listening to Holes by Louis Sachar. We will be learning about irony through all of the wonderful examples in the book Holes. In our spelling lesson we were challenged by homophones.

Grade 6: We finished reading the book Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. This is a realistic fiction book about a girl in Copenhagen experiencing the relocation of Jews in 1943. During math we are doing geometry. We are measuring and classifying angles, lines, and triangles and looking at how they can relate to each other.
