MORRIS -- University of Minnesota, Morris student and Starbuck native Cory Holten is working with his hometown Chamber of Commerce to create an online directory of local businesses and events. The aim of the project is to create a website for visitors and residents who wish to find information pertaining to events and stores in town. Holten’s job is to collect this information and publish it on the site.

The website utilizes drop-down menus for different subjects and audiences. Future possibilities for content include space for business advertisements and promotions, web pages for volunteer organizations, and the sale of Starbuck merchandise. The Chamber’s goal is to allow local ownership and development of the site.

“I know a lot of the members of the Chamber, and I’ve known them for a while,” said Holten, who is glad to be working for his hometown. “They all share a common goal that will ultimately end up benefiting Starbuck.”

Additional information about the directory is available online at starbuckmn.org.

This project is partially supported by an operating support grant to the University of Minnesota, Morris Center for Small Towns from the Otto Bremer Foundation. Website development training was provided by Bridge-Light Marketing and Web Design of Brainerd.
