Stars outshine the Storm

The Morris Benson Area Storm boy's hockey team added a late game to the schedule as they hosted River Lakes on Tuesday, Dec. 10 in Benson.

The Storm was no match for the River Lakes Stars as the Stars easily took the victory over the Storm 6-1. The Storm is now 0-5 on the season, still looking for that first win.

The Stars got on the board first just over the 10 minute mark in the first period, scoring three goals in under a minute of total play. Dylan Thrush got his first of two goals of the night to put the Stars up 3-0 at 11:18. Eric Zimmer added a goal of his own to put the Storm trailing 4-0 at the end of the first.

The second period saw a powerplay goal by Connor Beltz of River Lakes at 4:25 to increase the Stars’ lead to five. Blake Karsch and Zimmer had the assists on the powerplay goal.

Finally in the third period, the Storm got on the board with a goal. Storm senior Chad Schwarz scored the lone goal for the Storm at 6:24, assisted by Corey Goff and Tanner Mikkelson. The Stars answered with a goal of their own at 11:56, securing the 6-1 victory over the Storm.

The Storm will now travel to Luverne on Saturday, Dec. 14. The puck will drop at 3 p.m. The Storm is back in action at home (in Benson) against Prairie Center on Thursday, Dec. 19 at 7:30 p.m.
