Magnuson will visit Stevens County District Court on July 20. He will also tour other district courts on July 21, meeting with local court staff and judges.

A topic of discussion will be the impact of the funding shortage for the courts in the Eighth Judicial District, which has resulted in service and staffing cuts, as well as case delays. The 8th District recently announced it would close court offices at 2 p.m. on Fridays for cost savings.

Also on the agenda is an assessment of regionalization of some programs and services, including court administration and jury management, and the proposed centralization of payable ticket processing.

Magnuson's scheduled visits include the Grant County Courthouse in Elbow Lake, the Swift County Courthouse in Benson, the Kandiyohi County Courthouse in Willmar, the Chippewa County Courthouse in Montevideo, the Yellow Medicine County Courthouse in Granite Falls, the Renville County Courthouse in Olivia, and the Meeker County Courthouse in Litchfield.
