Steve Henriksen new Hancock city police chief
The Hancock City Council members approved the hiring of Steve Henriksen as a part-time police chief for the City of Hancock. Henriksen will assume his duties as soon as all qualifications and requirements have been met.
Henriksen grew up in Benson and graduated in 2003 from Benson high school. He attended Ridgewater College for an AAS Degree in Law Enforcement and completed the Summer Skills Program last summer. He is currently working full-time at Custom Roto Mold in Benson and plans to continue to work there.
Henrikson’s parents are Neil and Lori Henriksen of Benson. His father started in the field of law enforcement as a police officer and then became a Minnesota Conservation Officer. Steve admired what his father did for a living and wanted to be a police officer ever since he was a little kid.
His dream will come true with his first police officer job in Hancock. He will be working 40 hours per two week pay period for Hancock which will include varying nights and weekend hours. He may also be working on holidays such as the Fourth of July.
Steve and his wife, Miranda, live northeast of Benson. Miranda’s father, Brian Webber, lives east of Hancock so they are familiar with the community. He also has two older sisters and one younger sister.
Henriksen feels the job in Hancock will be a good fit because Hancock is a small community like Benson. His first impression of the town is that it is very friendly. He plans to get to know and work with the people in the community and perhaps do some community things such as a Bike Rodeo in the future.
When not working, he likes to hunt, fish, ride horse and just be outside and spending time with family.
The city council approved Henriksen as the part-time police chief and also changed some wording in the personnel policy. The change reflects an adjustment from employees living 15 miles from the community to 18 miles since this is the distance Henriksen will be from Hancock. When he is not on duty, the Steven’s County Sheriff’s Department will be covering.
