Stevens Co. Commissioners award three construction contracts to Riley Bros
MORRIS, Minn. - The Stevens County Board of Commissioners awarded three construction contracts to Riley Bros Construction, the low bidder in each case, for summer road work at their regular meeting on Tuesday.
Bids on all three projects were opened last Wednesday, April 11, and after compiling all of the information, it was apparent that Riley Bros was the low bidder on all three projects, said County Engineer Brian Giese.
The bid for the first project, an improvement to Highway 9 in Alberta, from Riley Bros was $520,600, about $23,000 less than the estimated cost of the project. Other bidders included Central Specialties ($644,766), Koehl Excavating ($668,255), Commerford Construction ($722,986) and Ronglien & Sons Excavation (787,958).
The second project, a box culvert addition to a bridge project on Highway 13, received a bid from Riley Bros of $55,084, about $13,000 less than the estimated cost of the project. Other bidders included Koehl Excavating ($71,394), Commerford Construction ($81,135), Voss Plumbing & Heating (82,155), Central Specialties ($84,483), Ronglien & Sons Excavation ($87,917) and Midwest Contracting ($98,306).
The third project, a planned improvement to Highway 13, was bid at $1.12 million from Riley Bros, compared to an estimated project cost of $1.21 million. Other bidders included Mark Sand & Gravel ($1.24 million), Anderson Brothers ($1.25 million), Central Specialties ($1.34 million) and Bituminous Paving ($1.37 million).
Other business
The board authorized Giese to hire up to two seasonal workers to help with construction and maintenance in the Highway Department from May to September.
Giese told the board that he would be losing a full-time department employee before construction season begins. Giese said he planned to use the seasonal employees to fill the gap.
The board authorized the Sheriff's Department to post a job description for a part-time deputy sheriff. Deputy Sheriff Jason Dingman told the board the part-time position would essentially be an "on-call" deputy to assist with transports or other situations when the department is short-staffed.
The board approved a three-year, $3,500 per year contract with Government Management Group, a company that helps the county get reimbursed for the indirect cost of administering federal programs.
Board Chair Larry Sayre appointed Commissioner Ron Staples to serve as Stevens County's representative on the board for the Chippewa River Watershed Project.
