Stevens County plans hazmat exercise in Chokio on June 16
MORRIS – Stevens County will be holding a full scale emergency response exercise on Monday, June 16 in Chokio.
During the exercise, staff with Cenex Harvest States/New Horizons will report a chemical leak in the city of Chokio. Emergency responders will be called to the scene and respond as if it were a real hazardous material incident. The exercise will begin at 6 p.m. and conclude at 8 p.m.
This exercise will provide emergency responders and lead officials with an opportunity to assess capabilities, plans, policies and procedures. The exercise will focus on decision making, coordination and integration with other organizations during a large-scale incident.
Residents of Chokio can expect to see emergency responders throughout the city. During the exercise, fire department personnel will go door-to-door in specific areas of the city with emergency related information. Additional information will be posted throughout the city and some roadways will be closed to provide safety for the responders.
