Stevens County Relay for Life
The Stevens County Relay for Life was on Friday, July 18 at Pomme de Terre Park. Around 200 participants made up 19 teams that participated in the Relay this year, but Relay for Life Specialist Kayla Hawkinson said attendance at Friday nights opening ceremonies in Morris was probably closer to 400.
Other noteworthy numbers include the 1,700 luminaria that lined the walking path at the park Friday night and the 65 survivors that attended the annual event.
The goal for the 2014 Relay was to raise a total of $65,000 to help fight cancer, and as of right now, all donations totaled $59,000 according to Hawkinson. There is still hope to reach the Relay goal as donations are still being accepted through the month of August and can be dropped off at Federated Telephone.
Over the last five years, the Relay for Life of Stevens County has raised more than $305,000 for the American Cancer Society.
