Stingrays fall to Thunder Hawks

On Thursday, the Morris Area Stingrays hosted the Montevideo Thunder Hawks and lost by a varsity score of 102-59 and a junior varsity score of 103-34.

Highlights of the meet included the Stingray swimmers setting nine season-best times and four first-place finishes by Austin Schieler, Dillon Morehouse, and Stefan Lemke.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of Jacob Erickson (backstroke 36.86), Mickey Cotter (breaststroke 45.32), Gage Anderson (butterfly 40.27), and Jason Rinkenberger (freestyle, 32.64) came in with a third-place 2:35.11.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Schieler took first place and swam for a season-best time of 2:09.81. He was followed by Roy Reese's season-best time of 2:18.90. In the JV 200 freestyle, Roberto Gameiro splashed in this event for the first time this season and finished with a 3:06.64.

In the 200 individual medley, Lemke won the event with a season-best time of time of 2:11.64. In the JV 100 IM, Vaughn Dieter swam in this event for the first time and came in with a time of 1:36.23. He was closely followed by Mickey Cotter's season-best time of 1:36.89.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Anderson took third place with a time of 29.68. In the JV 50-yard freestyle, Morehouse took first place with a time of 33.11.

Erickson earned 72.15 points in the one-meter diving event. Jason Rinkenberger also exhibitioned in this event for the first time this season.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Dieter finished with a time of 1:48.49.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Lemke took first place with a time of 49.30, just 0.03 seconds off the MAHS team record set by Ryan Lussenden in 1998. He was followed by Morehouse's season-best time time of 1:17.77. In the JV 100-yard freestyle, Gameiro took third place with a season-best time of 1:22.32.

Schieler and Reese both splashed in their first 500-yard freestyle event of the season. Schieler took second place with a time of 6:20.61 and Reese came in with a time of 6:29.15.

In the 200 free relay, the Stingrays' team of Lemke (23.34), Anderson (29.62), Reese (28.75), and Schieler (25.41) took second place with a time of 1:47.44. The JV 200 free relay team of Morehouse (33.78), Gameiro (35.23), Mickey Cotter (35.43), and Dieter (37.10) finished with a 2:21.61.

In the 100-yard backstroke, both Erickson and Rinkenberger finished with season-best times of 1:24.33 and 1:42.14, respectively.

In the 100-yard breaststroke, Mickey Cotter finished with a time of 1:43.90.

In the 400 freestyle relay, the team of Schieler, Anderson, Reese, and Lemke came in with a third-place finish of 3:57.59. In the JV 400, the team of Rinkenberger, Morehouse, Erickson, and Dieter finished with a time of 5:27.53.
