Storm boys bounce back

The Morris Benson Area boys' hockey team suffered a 9-1 loss Thursday on the road, but bounced back with an 8-0 win over Worthington Saturday at home.

The Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato Dragons hosted the Storm on Thursday, and avenged an earlier loss with a dominating 9-1 victory. The Dragons were out for revenge, as they out-played MBA in all facets of the game, outshooting the Storm by a 58-17 count. 

The Dragons led 2-0 at the end of the first period, peppering MBA goalie Will Johnson with 21 shots in the period with the Storm getting just five shots on goal.

The second period was much of the same as the Dragons put up 25 more shots on their way to scoring four goals.

Dustin Sauter scored the only goal of the night for the Storm in this period on a power-play assisted by Peter Lindblad and Brady Valnes. The Storm were able to get eight shots on net in the period.

  The Dragons scored the only three goals of the third period to make the final score 9-1, leading in shots on goal by a 12-4 margin.

Worthington 0

After falling short eight points against the Dragons, the Storm shut out Worthington 8-0 Saturday at the Benson Civic Center. The win improves the team's season record to 7-6-1.

A pair of power-play goals in the opening period led to a 2-0 Storm lead at the break. Tyler Hansen got the first goal at the 6:10 mark, assisted by Valnes and then Valnes assisted on another goal, this one by Mike Morales at 10:03.

Johnson stopped all five shots that he saw in the period on the way to the shut-out victory. The Worthington goalie, Devon Dixon, was credited with nine saves in the period.

The Storm put the game away in the second period, scoring five times for a 7-0 lead. Lindblad picked up the first two tallies, at 2:42 assisted by Hansen, and at 6:45 with an assist going to Ethan Ratliff-Crain. Ratliff-Crain would assist on the next goal as well, this one by Hansen at the 8:00 mark. Sauter then scored another power-play goal with assists from Lindblad and Hansen at 11:24. Lindblad closed out the second-period scoring and recorded a hat trick with an unassisted goal with 3:14 remaining.

Johnson made five more saves in the period with Dixon recording 10.

Lindblad added the only goal of the final period, assisted by Andreas Siggelin and Hansen at 15:02.

Each goalie made five saves in the running time period leaving Johnson with a game total of 15 and Dixon with 24.
