The Morris Benson Area boys clinched a second-place finish in the Southwest Conference with a 7-3 win over Worthington Saturday on the road.
With the win, the Storm finished the conference with an 8-4 record, topped only by Redwood Falls at 10-2, in their first year of conference play.
Luke Schwarz got the Storm on the board first with an unassisted goal just 1:47 into the opening period. The Storm struck for two goals in the final thirty seconds of the period, first on an unassisted goal by Thomas Horecka, and then Tyler Hansen scored assisted by Jake Manska and Josh Taylor.
Andrew Fath got the start in goal for the Storm and kept things scoreless.
Worthington scored early in the second period, but Taylor matched the goal for the Storm midway through the period with assists from Brady Valnes and Horecka. The Trojans again cut into the Storm's lead with a goal, but Schwarz scored again before the end of the period for a 5-2 Storm lead at the second period break. Kelly Engquist assisted on the goal.
Worthington again got the first goal of the final period, but the Storm put the game away with the final two goals of the game. Ethan Ratliff-Crain got a goal with assists from Schwarz and Engquist, and then Engquist scored unassisted.
Fath stopped 24 shots during the game, while the Trojan goalie stopped 29.
