Wadena-Deer Creek snapped a five-game winning streak with a 12-8 win over the Morris Benson Area boys in the final regular-season game for both teams Tuesday.
It was just the third loss for the Storm in the past 16 games, going back to the first of the year.
The Storm went up by five goals in the first period, before letting the Wolverines get on the scoreboard and score eight unanswered by the end of the second period.
Darion Helberg scored first for the Storm at the 3:10 mark of the first period with an assist from Jordan Staples, his first of four in that period. Mac Beyer put the Storm up 3-0 on assists from Staples and Andrew Rentz on the first and Staples and Brody Gimberlin on the second. Rentz scored a power-play goal and Tanner Picht scored unassisted to give the Storm a 5-0 lead.
Wadena finally got one past Storm goalie Kyle Kennedy late in the first period, but went on to dominate in the second period taking advantage of three power plays to score seven goals and take an 8-5 lead into the break.
Beyer started the third period by recording a hat trick on assists from Gimberlin and Picht. Wadena came back with two goals, one on the power play. Staples got an unassisted goal, quickly followed by Brody Gimberlin scoring from Picht to make it 10-8.
Down by two, the Storm pulled their goalie, but Wadena-Deer Creek capitalized by adding one on the empty net and another in the final seconds of the game.
Kennedy had 17 saves for the Storm, while two Wolverine goalies combined for 28 saves.
