Morris Benson Area finished the regular season with a 4-3 win over visiting Wadena/Deer Creek and enter the Section 6A tournament as the No. 9 seed. The Storm will face No. 8 St. Cloud Apollo Saturday at 5 p.m. at the MAC. The Storm finished out the regular season with an 11-12-1 record.
At the Lee Community Center Tuesday night, Mac Beyer scored off a Tyler Hansen pass with just 22.6 seconds remaining in the game to lead the Storm to a come-from-behind win over the Wolverines. The Storm scored all four of their goals in the final period as they trailed 1-0 heading into the final stanza.
The Wolverines got the only goal of the first two periods on a power-play advantage with 6:36 remaining in the opening period. The Storm had just killed their second 5-on-3 disadvantage when Taylor Bienusa got the goal with the Storm just one man short. Storm goalie Alex Sinclair had nine first-period saves and six in the second, while Wolverine goalie Tyler Muehler stopped all nine Storm attempts in the first and all eight in the second.
Tanner Picht scored just 36 seconds into the final period to tie the game and set off a wild third period. Beyer and Hansen assisted on the goal. Josh Taylor then gave the Storm their first lead of the game when he scored unassisted on a breakaway with 8:19 remaining. The Wolverines tied the game again just 55 seconds later and Bienusa regained the Wolverine lead with 5:34 left to play.
Then Kelly Engquist slammed home a rebound of a Brady Valnes shot with 2:33 left and the score was again tied at 3-3. Ethan Ratliff-Crain also had an assist on the goal. This set the stage for Beyer's goal. Sinclair made six more saves for a game total of 21 and Muehler made nine for a total of
