MBA Storm 5, Windom 2

The Storm got goals from Nate Vipond, Ethan Stahman, Matt Hoffman, Bo Olson and Lincoln Pahl to put away Windom on Saturday, Jan. 11.

The Storm was two-for-three on the power play, and defensively did well, considering the Storms’ 13 minutes in the box on five infractions. The Storm penalty kill stopped three-for-five of the opportunities the Eagles had to score on power play.

Vipond opened the game with an unassisted goal just over halfway thru the first period. The Storm added a Stahman goal from Kevin Meixel and Taylor Staples at the end of the first with Hoffman (from Taner Gimberlin) and Olson (from Corey Storck and Chad Schwarz) adding goals in the second, boosting the Storm lead to 4-0 before giving up two power play goals in 90-second span of the third period. Pahl ended any suspense with a power play goal at 9:24 of the third.

Hutchinson 9, MBA Storm 2

Hutchinson utilized all lines and 14 different players–a true team effort–to pick up a 9-2 victory over the Morris Benson Area Storm in Hutchinson on Monday, Jan. 13.

By the time the Storm got on the board late in the second period, the Tigers of Hutchinson already had racked up six goals against goalie Tony Bruns. A goalie switch over halfway through the second period boosted momentum a tad, producing a Storm goal. Storck found Olson for the first Storm goal of the night at 13:34. The shutout attempt for the new Storm goalie Kyle Kennedy didn’t last long as Hutchinson found the net to send the Storm into the second intermission trailing 7-1.

Storck started off the third with a goal from Kyle Lampert and Olson, but Hutchinson scored two more to seal the deal with a 9-2 win over the Storm.

MBA Storm 2, Wahpeton 2

The Storm hosted Breckenridge/Wahpeton in Morris on Tuesday, Jan. 14. An outstanding game by both goaltenders, the game ended in a 2-2 tie with both goalies having 30 saves apiece.

Though the Storm spent 10 minutes in the penalty box on five of eight infractions on the night, Wahpeton wasn’t able to capitalize on the power play chances in the first period.

In the second period, the Storm found the net on a power play with a goal by Storck, assisted by Gimberlin and Tanner Mikkelson. Wahpeton scored two goals, including a power play goal of its own to put the Blades up 2-1 heading into the second intermission.

Lampert scored early in the third to tie the game once and for all at 2-2. Storck had the assist on the Lampert goal.

The Storm is back in the action with two more home games within the next week. The Marshall Tigers come to town to take on the Storm in Benson on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m. Lastly, on Saturday, Jan. 18, the Storm hosts Worthington in a boys and girls double header with the boys facing off at 3 p.m. in Morris.
