Andrew Fath made 32 saves as the Storm ran their record to 8-4 with a 4-2 road win over Prairie Centre on Thursday.
The Storm got on the board first when Tanner Picht scored assisted by Tyler Hansen and the same pair connected again later in the period, this time with Hansen getting the goal and Picht picking up the assist. The 2-0 lead held up until the end of the period. Fath made nine saves in the first and the North Star goalie Justin Brever made 12.
Prairie Centre drew to within 2-1 on the first shift of the second period when Ben Frieler scored. Kelly Engquist of the Storm then netted a short-handed goal midway through the period to regain the two-goal lead for the Storm. Luke Schwarz assisted on the goal. Fath came up with 12 more saves in the second and Brever made four.
Picht got his second goal early in the third period assisted by Mac Beyer and the Storm led 4-1. With just under seven minutes to play it looked like the Storm had extended their lead to 5-1 when they scored, but a penalty behind the play wiped out the goal and the North Stars' Tyler Schultz scored on the ensuing power play to draw Prairie Centre to within 4-2. Two more penalties were called on the Storm in the last six minutes, but Prairie Centre was unable to capitalize as Fath and defensemen Isaac Berens, Jake Huston, Jordan Staples, and Chad Schwarz helped to keep them off of the scoreboard. Fath made 11 stops in the period for his game total of 32 while Brever made four for his game total of 20.
