The Morris Benson Area boys' hockey team came back from a 1-0 deficit after two periods to take a 4-2 lead and hung on for a 4-3 win over Windom on Saturday at the Civic Center in Benson.
With the win the Storm improved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the Southwest Conference while Windom fell to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
The Eagles got out to a 1-0 lead when they scored on a 5-on-3 power play advantage eight minutes into the opening period. That goal ended the scoring until the third period as each team was denied by the opposing team's goalie.
Tanner Picht scored a power-play goal on a rebound with just over 14 minutes remaining to tie the score at 1-1 and set up an exciting third period. Brady Valnes assisted on Picht's goal.
Tyler Hansen then scored on a breakaway with 11:27 left and the Storm had their first lead of the afternoon.
The Eagles tied the score again just three minutes later.
The Storm then capitalized on another power play advantage when Hansen scored from close in, assisted by Mac Beyer and Jake Manska with 4:09 remaining.
Kelly Engquist picked a good time to score the first goal of his varsity career at the 1:52 mark, assisted by Luke Schwarz and Ethan Ratliff-Crain. The goal made the score 4-2 in favor of the Storm and they needed the added advantage when Windom scored with 1:02 left to draw the Eagles to within 4-3.
Alex Sinclair and the Storm held on to earn their first ever win in the Southwest Conference. Sinclair had a game total of 24 saves.
