Storm girls play two strong periods in loss to Luverne
The Morris Benson Area girls' hockey team was in the game Saturday at Luverne until the third period when the Cardinals took the lead and went on to a 6-3 victory.
The Storm got on the board first when Morgan DeHaan scored early off assists from Danielle Moseng and Clarissa Blake. Luverne answered midway through the period. The Storm regained a short-lived lead when DeHaan scored unassisted, only to have Luverne tie it up 10 seconds later. Luverne scored in the final minute to take a 3-2 lead into the first break.
The Storm tied it up on a power play late in the second. Emily Walz scored on an assist from Hanna Lindblad for the only goal of the second period.
Luverne took over in the third with a 19-2 shot advantage. The Cardinals scored three unanswered goals, two on power plays, for the win.
Shianne Wold stopped 43 shots in the Storm's net. Cardinal Kennedy Gonnerman recorded 14 saves.
