Sviggum to meet with Morris Chamber
Steve Sviggum, Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry, will be at the Common Cup in Morris on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 1 p.m.
The visit gives Sviggum the opportunity to talk with members of the Morris Area Chamber of Commerce to discuss last year's failed workers' compensation bill, what Sviggum sees as a need reform workers' compensation in Minnesota, and the new bill that will be introduced in the 2009 session. There will be a 40-minute question-and-answer session following Sviggum's presentation,
Sviggum was appointed head of the DLI by Gov. Tim Pawlenty in July 2007. In this role, Sviggum leads Minnesota's effort to protect the health and safety of workers and employers in Minnesota.
Sviggum is attempting to reform workers' compensation in Minnesota. Last year, a reform bill failed. Since then, the Department of Labor and Industry has been working with insurers, employers, and employees to formulate new ways to improve Minnesota's workers' compensation system.
